Quarantine has taken a toll on our mental health as well as our physical health. Thankfully, staying indoors has also presented us with the opportunity to pay close attention to our beauty. Hair care plays vital role in this.

Hair care can be a lot of hassle, especially for those who like their locks long. It takes a lot of time and patience to stir up concoctions to pour in your roots. Which is why quarantine is the perfect time for you to embark on this journey to obtain shiny, silky hair!

Go Heat-free

Most people tend to blow dry, straighten or curl their hair on the regular. We style with heat to look good, look professional and feel good, regardless of how bad it is for our hair. Blow drying is unavoidable for so many people that quarantine is a blessing for their heat-damaged hair.

Now that you are working from home, it is the ideal time for you to go natural. Let your hair breathe! Let your hair air-dry instead of using hot tools. As you cut down on using heat on your hair, you will notice a decrease in split-ends and breakage. This will result in your hair to become softer and nourished.

We know that curly hair can be impossible to tame, and for some people it is impossible to not use a hair dryer. For them, it is recommended to air dry 3/4th of the hair and then using a dryer to tame your curls. This can reduce a drastic level or damage in the long run by keeping it properly hydrated.

Oil Treatment

All experts advise oiling hair at least once a week to keep it healthy. Oil treatments are the best natural way to revitalize and preserve your hair, regardless of type. The best part about oil treatment is that you can do it at home. All the things you need are most likely in your kitchen, and quarantine lets you assemble them into your own homemade hair mask.

It is recommended for readers to use all sorts of natural ingredients to create the hair mask. Ingredients may vary depending on specific issues and shortcomings. For instance, I happen to have dry and frizzy hair that is prone to fallout. I looked up a DIY deep oil treatment and got to work.

For this, I mixed some coconut, argan, almond and sesame oil and applied it to my scalp. I wrapped a hot towel on my head and let it sit for about 20 minutes before rinsing with sulphate-free shampoo. The difference was apparent from the first time. I repeated this process every 5 days for the next three weeks and I have to say, it is UNREAL!

Feed Your Hair

For proper hair growth, you need all the nutrients nature has to offer. The human body needs food, exercise, rest, light, and water to stay in tip-top shape and that includes our hair. You need to eat the right amount of meat, fish, greens, and herbs to ensure your hair is getting the necessary vitamins to sustain itself.

A lot of us are careful about exercise and eating habits, but we often neglect the necessity of light in our lives. Yes, UV light can be harmful for us. But there are harmful rays and then there are necessary rays. Just as we need sunlight to ensure our skin stays healthy, we need sunlight to sustain our hair as well.

Unfortunately, we cannot bask in the sun at ease due to overexposure or lack of sunlight in certain areas. But this has a very easy and quick fix, thanks to light therapy; clinically approved for hair revitalizing.

This is a widely available service at most salons because of the increasing success of light therapy for hair loss and hair density. In lockdown, this can be achieved with mini UV-light boxes for home which will serve both hair and skin.

Tips:

  • Avoid shampooing everyday as it can weaken your hair.
  • Trim your split ends at home. Trimming can be simple to do at home and it keeps your hair fresh and healthy.
  • Onions and Garlic help your hair grow. Whether you are eating them or rubbing them on your scalp, they are great for hair growth and strength. Onion and garlic rinses are an effective remedy for hair loss since ancient times.
  • Avoid tight ponytails. Keep your pony loose and make sure your hair is completely dry before tying.
  • Use cotton towels or ultra-absorbent towels to speed up the drying process.
  • Pat hair with the towel instead of rubbing it.
  • Change your updo. Having the same hairstyle can strain the hair in a particular area, causing headaches and tears in the hair.
  • Buy Sulphate-free shampoo.
  • Always wash hair with lukewarm water.
