Microsoft’s Windows operating system plays vital role in personal computer space since its inception. From Windows 1.0 to Windows 10 the operating system took various avatars based on technology, innovation and to satisfy the user needs. Rumours are now about Windows 11 operating system.
Recently, Microsoft revealed the retirement date for Windows 10 in an updated support life cycle page for the OS. Yes, Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 on October 14th, 2025. It will mark just over 10 years since the operating system was first introduced.
Microsoft will reveal next week what PC users have been waiting for: a makeover of its Windows operating system. The Redmond-based software powerhouse is touting “what’s next” for Windows, which many believe will mark the debut of Windows-11 on June 24.

But ahead of the launch, a massive leak has revealed the interface of the upcoming OS that includes a redesigned Start menu and a lot more. Reports suggest that Microsoft will be releasing the next update as Windows 11, leaving the Windows 10 nomenclature behind. The Windows-11 update is expected to be a significant one and is likely to bring an overhaul of the Windows app store as well. The new leak suggests that Windows 11 could also have a new widget icon in the taskbar.
Windows 11: New features
Ahead of the global debut of Windows 11, video and images of Microsoft’s upcoming operating system have leaked online. On Tuesday, a user on the Chinese site Baidu Tieba posted screenshots taken from a new version of Windows.
Based on leaked screenshots, the next generation of Windows appears to have a new start menu, home screen, startup sound and a Mac-like vibe. The Verge downloaded a copy of the “Windows-11 build 21996.1”, and found it genuine. It’s being said that Windows 11 adopts visual changes found in Windows 10X, a new operating system that Microsoft was working on to rival Google’s Chrome OS.
Start menu
A centred Start menu design gives Windows a much-needed refresh. The start menu has been simplified; it also means no more live tiles. Instead you see standard icons that show pinned apps, even recommended apps and files.
Taskbar
Taskbar has been revamped in new version as well. It’s in the centre, featuring the start menu, default icons and search bar, just like Chrome OS. There’s a dedicated button in the taskbar to add widgets.
Rounded corners on windows, File explorer icons
Windows and menus appear to have slightly rounded edges. Meanwhile, the folder icons are more playful and colourful. The animations look and feel fluid.
Microsoft has added new system sounds in the upcoming version of windows. Don’t worry, classic Windows features such as the Control Panel and Task Manager, continue to be part of Microsoft’s next-generation Windows.
