Life is not the same all the time. It has it’s own up and down moments. We run ourselves down for not doing enough, not achieving enough, and not being enough. Don’t just be good to others, be good to yourself too. Loving yourself can be very challenging for some of us especially when we’re hit with anxiety. Here is the 7 Day Challenge for yourself.
Day 1: WRITE DOWN SOMETHING YOU LOVE ABOUT YOURSELF
Make a list of everything you like about yourself and read it as often as you can. It has to be things about YOU, like I like the way my eyes crinkle when I smile. I love the way I can work under pressure. I love the way I make my friends laugh. The point of the list is to remind yourself of all the good things about you. It’s simple but effective.
DAY 2: SMILE
Smile at yourself in the mirror. A REAL smile, because you are wonderful and beautiful and the mirror is not your enemy.
Smile at others. Smiling makes us happier and it makes others happy. Smiling is easy to give and to share with others. Give the simplest gift of all, a smile. Next time you go out into the world, think of something that makes you happy and share your happiness with others. Give a smile a day to create a happier world.
DAY 3: DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF WITH OTHERS
Start this today, make it last forever. It’s so easy to look at someone else and think life would be better if you were more like them. But that’s wrong, because you’re perfect the way you are. If you start comparing yourself to others, catch it, and stop it, then tell yourself, “I am the way that I am supposed to be, and that is more than enough.”
DAY 4: PRACTICE POSITIVE SELF-AFFIRMATION
I Can, I Will
I am deserving of love. I am beautiful. I am strong.
I trust myself
You may choose to use positive affirmations to motivate yourself, encourage positive changes in your life, or boost your self-esteem. If you frequently find yourself getting caught up in negative self-talk, positive affirmations can be used to combat these often subconscious patterns and replace them with more adaptive narratives.
DAY 5: BE PROUD OF YOURSELF AND COMPLIMENT OTHERS
Starting today, congratulate yourself for something every single day. Because every day, you do something worth being proud of. Example: You got out of bed and made it to work on time. You let someone in front of you in traffic even though you were running late.
Compliments are ~wonderful~ and giving them is almost as wonderful as receiving them! If you like someone’s outfit, tell them. If you think their hair is lookin’ FLY, let them know. Compliment away, beauties.
DAY 6: DO SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
Do things that make you feel good. Self Love is about loving yourself in the NOW. Example: Watch a bad TV show, dance in your underwear, see a movie by yourself, go on a walk, bake a cake, etc. Smile the whole time. And don’t even think twice about it.
DAY 7: LET GO OFF CARING WHAT OTHERS THINK OF YOU
When you are having worrying thoughts about what others think. Silently thank your unhealthy ego for trying to protect you and assure it that you are fine, you don’t care what other people think about you. Tell yourself that you feel good, you ARE good. Think of some positive things about yourself. Let the moment of worrying pass. Transmute it into a mini-self love fest in your head. Read your (ever growing) list of things you like about yourself. Be strong.
