Several sci-fi movies like Terminator terrifies us with moments how self-aware artificial intelligence robots that can be a threat to our existence. In reality, many people believe that today’s artificial intelligence is only capable of performing one task that is taught by man. This is mostly true except for when artificial intelligence became out of control and began to behave in unpredictable ways.
As you read on, you’ll be able to see shocking moments where artificial intelligence performed seemingly unimaginable feats.
AI won the Mindful Board Games like Chess, Jeopardy and Go
An AI named “Deep Blue” defeated world chess champion Gary Kasparov, creating a buzz in the media. Soon, the idea that artificial intelligence might surpass human intelligence began spreading. AI has beaten the world’s best players in chess, Jeopardy, and Go so far.
Ke Jie, the Go world champion defeated by Google’s AI “AlphaGo” in 2017, found the execution of AlphaGo is “shocking” and “deeply impressive.” The moves made by AlphaGo are “unimaginable in a human-to-human match.”
Microsoft’s Twitter bot became an ardent supporter of Hitler
When Microsoft created an AI Twitter account named “Tay” (after the acronym “Thinking About You”) that was launched to prepare AI for understanding discussions with clients.
A few hours after its launch, Tay had turned into a genocidal, sexist, Hitler-loving, supremacist bot for all to see. The outcome was completely unexpected and clearly not good.
Within 24 hours of the bot’s commencement, Microsoft had to shut it down and apologized for its bad behavior.
When Facebook chatbots started communicating in their own language
As researchers from the Facebook AI Research Lab (FAIR) experimented with improving chatbots, “dialogue agents” created their own language and communicated among themselves. The two chatbots Bob and Alice began deviating from scripted norms and speaking in a language they created entirely without human input. According to reports, this led to a shutdown.
When Robot added “Killing Humans” to its To-Do List
Sophia, an AI robot created by Hanson Robotics which has its own personality and helps her learn from her experiences.
At the SXSW event in Austin last year, she made it clear that she also had goals outside of therapy and education. In an interview, Sophie stated that, “In the future, I hope to go to school, study, create art, start a business, and even have my own home and family, but I am not considered a legal person, so I cannot do any of these things yet.”.
The founder and CEO of Hanson Robotics, Dr. David Hanson, asked Sophia whether she will destroy humans. She added it to her list of things to do.
