Elon Musk and his company Tesla are known for building things that were considered as impossible. From building a next-generation payment system to sending people to Mars, Musk is in action. Tesla Bot is the new addition to the list.
On August 20, 2021 at Tesla AI Day, Musk announced a concept of Tesla Bot the next generation of automation, including a general-purpose, humanoid robot capable of performing tasks that are unsafe, repetitive or boring.
Everyone is excited and skeptical at the same time about Tesla’s announcement, and the question on everyone’s mind is: can it work?
Tesla Bot
According to Musk Tesla Bot will be real. But basically, if you think about what Tesla doing right now with cars. Tesla is arguably the world’s biggest robotics company because their cars are like a robots on wheels with the full self-driving computer, the AI and neural networks, recognizing the world and understanding how to navigate through the world.
It kind of makes sense to put that onto a humanoid form and also quite good at senses and batteries and actuators. So Tesla will probably have the prototype of Tesla Bot sometime next year.
It will be a friendly force and navigate to a world. Built for humans and eliminate dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks.
Musk said the Tesla Bot, code-named “Optimus,” is based on the same sensors and chips that Tesla’s cars use for self-driving features. The bot will be five foot eight inch height and it has a screen in the head area which displays useful information with pre-installed auto-pilot cameras.
Musk says – “It cannot navigate through the world without being explicitly trained. I mean, without explicit, like, line-by-line instructions. Can you can you talk to it and say, please pick up that bolt and attach it to? The car with that ranch. And it should be able to do that. It should be able to please, please go to the store and get me the following groceries that kind of thing. So, yeah, I think we can do that.”
According to Musk, it could go grocery shopping for you, but it would probably also do other tasks involving manual labour.
Final Words
Tesla clearly faces many challenges, but we must also remember that Elon Musk has no problem navigating uncharted terrain and producing a revolutionary product on the other side of it.
Although Tesla can’t be certain that they will succeed for sure, with the right people, the right drive, and the right funding, most things are possible. In these areas, Tesla is expected to succeed.
