Do you know what’s amazing about being alive? We simply have the opportunity to live!
But unfortunately, many people aren’t really living, they are just existing. We shouldn’t have to be alive just to exist, we should be alive to live our lives. We are so lucky to be here and it can be easy to forget that.
Life is too short to dread your days and only look forward to the weekends.
You want to be living your life to it’s absolute fullest because this is the only life you’ve got. So you might as well make it as wonderful as you can, right?
Well, lucky for you, you can have a wonderful life, and it’s ultimately up to you to decide. You can either chose to see the bad in life, or you can choose to see the good in life. It’s that simple.
Here are some habits you can get into to increase your chances of having a marvelous day.
1. Start Your Days With Getting Your Mind Right
Mornings are super important. How you start your morning sets the tone of the rest of the day.
If you want to have a good day, it all starts with your attitude. Change your attitude, change your life.
“The only difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude.”
― Dennis S. Brown
You can either look at the day ahead as just another dreadful day to get through, or you can look at the day as another blessed and beautiful day on this Earth. You can look at it as an opportunity to change something in your life and to be the best version of yourself that you can be.
Every morning I tell myself the same affirmation to get my mind and attitude right for the day. I tell myself that I am thankful for all that I have and excited for what is to come.
Set aside a bit of time in the morning to gain the right mindset and attitude for the day ahead of you.
Not only will this lift your spirits, but it will attract more positive energy throughout your day. When you have a positive attitude, it opens up all the good that can come to you. If you have a negative attitude, you aren’t allowing yourself to receive good things. You are repelling them with your mood and energy.
“Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.”
— Zig Ziglar
I personally find the most effective and instant way to lift up my spirit and attitude by reading some positive affirmations and quotes. They can be so motivational. It’s a great way to get your mind right. Words are so powerful and have much influence over us. Words can either inspire you or words can destroy you. It’s so important to choose them wisely. Feed your mind with positive words, they influence your life more than you may be aware of!
2. Look For The Good in Others
“Life becomes easier and more beautiful when we can see the good in other people.” ― Roy T. Bennett
We are surrounded by people everywhere we go. There are sometimes people we don’t like to be around and it can often be unavoidable. Therefore, it is so much easier if we look for the good in others rather than the bad. It makes time spent with people much more enjoyable.
Seeing the good in others is a powerful and simple way to feel happier and more confident, along with making the world a more loving and productive place.
For instance, if there is someone who you really dislike and don’t enjoy being around, looking for the good in them can do all the difference. Because believe it or not, there is good in most people you meet. Instead of looking at all of their negative qualities, try to acknowledge their good qualities. Maybe even compliment them and remind them of their good qualities. It is often times the meanest people who need to be lifted up the most. You have nothing to lose here. Compassion can benefit both the giver and the receiver. It will make you feel like a good person and make your day just a bit less stressful.
3. Remind Yourself That Sh*t Happens
“I always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter.” — Walt Disney
Let’s face it, life can’t always be good. However, life wouldn’t be so good if bad things didn’t happen to us. No one has a perfect life. We all go through tough times. But let me assure you, we go through them for a reason. If we didn’t go through tough times in our lives, how else are we supposed to grow? We can’t grow by staying the same.
You don’t have to let the tough times discourage you. You don’t have to let them stop you from moving forward. But do you know what you can do? You can take a moment and react. You can stop and think for a moment, and react through observation and awareness.
If you made a mistake, ask yourself how you can learn from it and what you can do differently next time.
If something doesn’t go as you wished it would, you must remind yourself that sh*t happens and this too shall pass. I like to think of my life as one big novel; I consider the bad days to just be chapters and not the whole story.
Just always remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. You can get through anything in life. Try your best to remain positive and just keep moving forward. Let the hard times pass. After all, it can only make you stronger.
“I’m a very positive thinker, and I think that is what helps me the most in difficult moments.” — Roger Federer
4. Pay Attention to The Good in Your Life
Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, pay attention to what you do have. It makes you realize that life doesn’t suck so bad after all. This mindset can do wonders for you, making you feel happier and more content with life in general.
“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.” — Buddha
When you are grateful for all that is good in your life, you are using the gratitude mindset.
This mindset can work really well if you’re an overachiever. Overachievers tend to want more and more and aren’t completely satisfied until they get there. They should be grateful for how far they’ve come and take moments to thank themselves for their hard work!
When you begin practicing gratitude, you no longer keep wanting more. Gratitude brings contentment and satisfaction. You realize you can find joy in the little things. There is so much that can bring much happiness into your life if you’re just mindful of them. Even if it doesn’t always seem this way, there is always something to be grateful for.
5. Just Do You
At the end of the day, it’s your life. Focus on what really matters. Do you know what really matters? You. You matter. You need to care for yourself so you can be the best version of yourself that you can be. You need to care for yourself so that you can love yourself. This isn’t selfish, it’s something we all need to do for the sake of our own sanity.
If you don’t spend time focusing on yourself, you may become someone who you aren’t proud of. You need to focus on yourself in order to love yourself. And why do you need to love yourself? Because the relationship you have with yourself will set the tone for every other relationship you have. You need to love yourself because that’s who you’ll be spending the rest of your life with.
“Love yourself first and the rest will follow.”
Don’t focus on what other people are doing. Don’t care to mind about what other people think of you. Don’t spend your time comparing yourself with other people. Focus on yourself. It’s normal to lose focus and get discouraged when people have negative things to say about you, but at the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter what they think about you. Their opinions are irrelevant and aren’t facts unless you believe them. When you focus too much on the outside world rather than the inside world, you lose a sense of who you really are. Instead of focusing on what everyone else is doing, seek within and keep striving towards your own goals values. Once you do this, you will find your purpose. YOU are here for a reason, so focus on YOU.
Life can be complex, but there are ways of making it simple. Some of us make it more complicated than it needs to be. So just remember, we only have one life to live. Don’t just exist, live! Be present in every moment. Appreciate the little things. Laugh and joke around. Have fun and just do you.
Oh, and just a little reminder, don’t take life too seriously because after all, no one makes it out alive.
